Blue

Four years after my first album "Friends", which was characterized by Pop and Jazz, it appealed to me to record something musically totally different - a calm instrumental album. In only three months time between April and June 1997, a concept album, arising from a general music idea and various improvisations, was composed almost completely right through.

The 16 title songs flow well into one another and the music binds together the music and emotions that appear throughout. In this fast-paced day and age full of hectic, my "musical" soul, like those of many people, longs for just this type of music and strives constantly toward inner peace and harmony. This I have transposed in "Blue".

"Blue" is inspired from the strength of the ocean that again and again awakes dreams and desires far from reality and prompts fantasies - inspired as well from
lingering under southern skies on solitary beaches
where one can find peace, one´s balanced character,

and possibly even a better meaning of life.
Deep in thought, I often linger on the picturesque beaches of the rugged Greek Island Karpathos in the Dodecanese Islands. On romantic summer nights, melancholy and a zest for life are not far from each other.

"Blue" mirrors these subjective impressions and experiences. Crucial to this album, I was given much encouragement by my long-time friend from Karpathos, the painter Minas Vlahos who in 1993 also designed the cover for "Friends". He made "Blue" as well into a work of art.

Last but not least, "Blue" was inspired by a poem that strongly impressed me. It is called "Footprints" and is printed in the booklet included with the CD in its original form. This poem conveys the direct closeness of life and death, the inseparable union of God and Man and bestows, in its pictorial form of a beach experience, to our life here on earth a new and positive strength in a reality filled with life´s questions.

Don´t just listed to "Blue" in the background but give this album your undivided attention. Let the poem spiritualize while listening to the music and you will feel more consciously and will be able to draw strength from it.

I wish you a pleasant journey through "life" with "Blue".

(Text from the booklet included with the CD, where the above mentioned poem "Footprints" from Margaret Fishback Powers is also printed in its original form)

Gemini

"Gemini", the sign of the twins, constitutes the theme of the third BEAVER album. Influences from Mediterranean rhythms, Greek music, classic and modern western music as well as a few dreamy romantic instrumental ballads are combined together in the music of GEMINI to form a multi-faceted New-Age album.

GEMINI joins traditional middle and south European music; rhythms originating from the Balkan area are mixed with pop-related beats and find their symbiosis in this varied production. .

Orchestrations having classic and oriental elements, pop beats, esoteric and arrangements layed out epically even fuse in "Freedom" with opera and pop songs.

But GEMINI is also soft and romantic; with its melodic piano lines, it invites you to dream and surprises again and again with its powerful and partly tracked beats that reflect the zest for life, the passion for all that is new and the striving for diversity.

After the preceding album "BLUE", BEAVER presents with his second CD a unique musical combination of instrumental music, new age and world music in one. The conception of GEMINI is at the same time a metaphorical and musical transposition of the eternal fascination of the ocean and its tremendous powers of nature, its unpredictability, the perceptiveness of wide and never-ending horizons, and its calmness.

With MINAS VLAHOS's painted gloss cover, GEMINI is also an artistic masterwork.

GEMINI fits in smoothly with the young World Music / New Age CDs from Mediterranean Music.

Born in the sign of the versatile and dualistic GEMINI, BEAVER has turned out a many-sided and innovative album that does more than justice to his basic principle out of Greek mythology - PANTA REI
(all is in a state of flux).

Yulara Cosmic Tree

In the language of the Australian Aborigines, YULARA means "The Cry of the Dingoes".

This band, led by Annie Hilsberg and Robert Matt, acts as a medium between metaphysical transcendence and worldly transposition. Their compositions integrate songs from humpback whales as well as the meditative sounds of the far-reaching oceans and the mysterious sounds of wild and untouched nature.
YULARA´s music rises to higher realms in a multi-colored mosaic of heavenly premonitions, exotic instruments, charming songs and a prevailing atmospheric mood. Ethnic, funk and celestial trance are mixed together along with jazz, hip hop and modern dance elements.

 "C
OSMIC TREE" is a new musical form of communication that "speaks" to the listener on a non-verbal level and mutually inspires using the various languages of nature and life forms. YULARA is a place without time where cultures are joined.

"COSMIC TREE" is a perceptive and magical dream journey through bewitching and unusual sound worlds, lingering harmonies and traditional songs. Fascinating and original world jazz between dream and reality.

Yulara all is one

YULARA, the "Cry of the Dingos", is also the name of an Australian village near the famous "Ayers Rock". This project from ROBERT MATT and ANNE HILSBERG relates itself musically to this holy rock and its tales. ALL IS ONE is world music, a colorful and highly imaginative journey through the initial common grounds shared between various people and nature.
This debut album from YULARA is refreshing and full of atmosphere, a mixture out of modern grooves, jazz harmonies, meditative sound collages and ethno sounds.

The musical style of YULARA combines skillfully and tastefully acoustic impressions with complex compositions that follow a musical journey through the Far East and Australia. ALL IS ONE is sensitive, meditative music that not only opens up the doors to new worlds but also encourages a soul-searching pause.

YULARA presents a remarkably produced CD, an adventure of a special kind of world journey that no one should miss.

Minas Vlahos

Minas Vlahos was born on September 2nd 1956 on the island of Karpathos and here he spend his childhood. On this little greek island between Crete and Rodes, with its sometimes rough but gentle charakter, he began painting when he was a little boy. This passion didn't let him loose for the rest of his life.

During his ten years in the USA he developed the wish to open his own art gallery. A few years ago he managed to realize his dream and opened his own
Studio. With the >ART CENTER< he created a gallery whose harmony of music and Minas pictures is very inviting. His exposition is open for the public from the first of May till the end of October. With the opening of his gallery he made many friends all over the world. It is always worthwhile to visit the >
ART CENTER<,

but the visitors should take their time and the
artist will be pleased to answer their questions.
Minas is very happy if he can present and at
the same time give his audience a part of hinself.
